Taylor Swift recently kicked off her first Eras Tour show at London’s Wembley Stadium after her Vienna concerts were canceled due to a terror threat earlier this month. The singer, 34, appeared emotional during the performance, with tears glistening in her eyes at one point during the Lover era segment of the show.
Although Swift did not directly address the canceled Vienna shows, she did surprise the London crowd by bringing out her longtime friend and collaborator, Ed Sheeran, for a special performance. The duo sang a medley of their hits, including “Everything Has Changed,” “End Game,” and Sheeran’s solo track “Thinking Out Loud.” Swift fondly introduced Sheeran as her “second brother” and reminisced about their past tours together.
The Eras Tour at Wembley Stadium, which began on August 15, will continue for five nights until August 20. This marks Swift’s second stint at the arena, having performed there three times in June. The Vienna shows at Ernst Happel Stadium, originally scheduled for August 8-10, were canceled by authorities following the discovery of a planned terrorist attack.
Law enforcement officials in Vienna have since apprehended three suspects with alleged ties to ISIS in connection with the thwarted attack. While Swift has not publicly commented on the incident, her close friend Blake Lively expressed relief that authorities were able to prevent any harm.
The safety of fans and performers remains a top priority, and concert organizers Barracuda Music made the difficult decision to cancel the Vienna shows in light of the security threat. Swift’s resilience and commitment to her fans were evident as she delivered a memorable performance at Wembley Stadium, supported by the talented Ed Sheeran.
