Not since Michael Jackson and Love Actually star Martine McCutcheon rocked up to Liza Minnelli and David Gest’s OK! funded wedding in 2002, have there been nuptials so atmospherically confusing as Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s super-sized ceremony at Madison Square Garden (MSG) this weekend.
It seemed, initially, too gauche to be true that the world’s biggest pop star would tie the knot to her Super Bowl champion boyfriend in a 19,500-person capacity concert venue, but as the NYPD began to implement extensive street closures around the stadium on Friday (that reportedly cost nearby businesses thousands of dollars’ worth of footfall) it was clear this was, in fact, steamrolling ahead.
