Taylor Heinicke’s touchdown pass to Antonio Gibson in Week 7 was historic

The Washington Commanders are celebrating 90 years as an NFL franchise this season. The Commanders have done several things to celebrate the milestone anniversary, including adding 10 more franchise greats to the “90 greatest” list last weekend.

That wasn’t the only history from Washington’s 23-21 win over the Green Bay Packers last week. When quarterback Taylor Heinicke found running back Antonio Gibson for a nine-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, it was the 3,000th touchdown in franchise history.

While it’s been a tough 20+ years for Washington fans, considering the franchise’s history, that 3,000th touchdown was a memorable moment.

Before practice on Thursday morning, Gibson and Heinicke stopped for a picture with the historic football. Immediately afterward, the football was being sent to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.

It was Heinicke’s first touchdown pass of the season and Gibson’s first touchdown reception.

This isn’t the first time Washington’s 2022 team has been represented at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Daron Payne’s uniform from Washington’s Week 1 win over Jacksonville was sent to Canton as it represented the franchise’s first game as the Commanders.
