Tasty offer as 1,000 customers at Burger King in Cramlington get free Whopper

The North East's newest burger restaurant has come up with a whopping offer for its first 1,000 customers through the doors on Wednesday, November 16.

Burger King, which opened in Cramlington at the weekend, is giving away its Whoppers or Plant-Based Whoppers to celebrate the new site - but you'll have to download the app before you can take part.

The restaurant, which will go head to head with McDonald's in Manor Walks Shopping Centre, is part of the US-based chain's plans to open 200 new sites in four years, announced earlier this year. The opening has created 30 jobs in the town.

The offer - which is being billed as a one-of-a-kind ‘Whopper Wednesday’ deal - is first come, first served. To get your hands on a free burger, you will need to head to the Burger King app to retrieve a code and then show it to the staff to claim your free Whopper or Plant-Based Whopper.

Customers who register with the new ‘Your Burger King’ loyalty programme will automatically be awarded 200 points – which is enough to claim a cheeseburger, or fries.

Alasdair Murdoch, CEO of Burger King UK, said: “We know the people of Cramlington love the great-tasting food of Burger King, so we’ve listened to their requests and are very excited to bring all their favourites to their neighbourhood. Our home – of the Whopper! – is their home.”

The Burger King brand is the second largest fast food hamburger chain in the world, although it still has a bit of ground to make up before it catches up with rival McDonald's, which has around 1,270 restaurants in the UK compared to Burger King's 510.

The chain was founded in 1953 in Jacksonville, Florida, as Insta-Burger King, after its founders were inspired by the McDonald brothers' original store location in San Bernardino, California.

Burger King announced its expansion plans in April, after a sharp rise in profits.
