Taskmaster series 16 cast features comedy and Bake Off legends

The identities of the Taskmaster series 16 contestants have been revealed - with a Great British Bake Off legend and a comedy icon set to battle for the trophy. Within moments of the latest series ending tonight (June 1), the hit Channel 4 show's producers have confirmed the next quintet of comedians who will star.

Looking to impress Taskmaster Greg Davies and his assistant Alex Horne will be Julian Clary, Lucy Beaumont, Sam Campbell, Sue Perkins and Susan Wokoma. A date for when the 16th series will air is yet to be confirmed.

The show, based on a concept created by Horne at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2010, was first broadcast on Dave in 2015 and quickly became a hit with audiences as comedians completed bizarre tasks in the hope of scoring highly and winning a huge trophy depicting Davies' head in gold. The show then shifted over to Channel 4 in 2020 and has continued to be a success.

It has won several accolades during its time on-screen including a BAFTA and National Comedy Award. It has also been nominated for many other awards including an Emmy.

Clary made a name for himself on the comedy circuit during the 1980s, becoming a household name. He has appeared in a number of TV programmes, including fronting quiz shows.

Perkins became famous as one half of Mel and Sue alongside best friend Mel Giedroyc, who has also previously appeared on Taskmaster. She has gone on to co-host the Great British Bake Off during its time on the BBC and has presented travel documentaries as she visited countries including India, Japan, Mexico and the USA.

Beaumont has broken through on primetime TV in recent years with appearances on comedy panel quiz shows like QI and 8 Out of 10 Cats Do Countdown. She also stars and co-writes Dave's Meet the Richardsons, which details a fictionalised version of her life with husband and fellow stand-up comedian Jon Richardson, who has also previously appeared on Taskmaster.

Campbell's big break came last year when he took home the coveted main prize at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards during the city's famous Fringe Festival. The Australian has also starred in the sitcom Stath Lets Flats.

Wokoma will be recognisable to many from her starring role as Edith in both Enola Holmes films. The actress has also appeared in The Inbetweeners 2, Holby City and Cheaters.

Along with series 16 of the main show, Taskmaster is also introducing a children's version to TV schedules. The show will be presented by former contestant Rose Matafeo, who will be assisted by another Taskmaster alumni in the form of Mike Wozniack.
