Tartan Army fans forced to take six flights to watch Scotland play in Armenia

Faithful members of the Tartan Army are having to take up to six flights to see their heroes take on Armenia tonight in the Nations League.

Despite losing 3-0 in Dublin, fans arrived in the Armenian capital of Yerevan by a number of bizarre routes to see Scotland play.

Some were stunned to discover they did get a trip to Qatar after all- with the controversial World Cup Host used to reroute flights that had been cancelled amid ongoing staff issues with airlines.

According to the Daily Record, Graeme Bazter, from the Dunfermline Tartan Army, was among those headed to Armenia after the defeat in Dublin.

His group travelled from Scotland to Ireland, then on to Poland and to Armenia. The escapade took 18 hours before touching down in the capital.

Graeme said on Monday: “We left Dublin at 8am on Sunday, through Poznan, Warsaw and arrived in Yerevan 6am local time this morning. It was a dreadful performance in Dublin and an awful result, but there are plenty games left in this campaign.”

Hi shared a photograph online of his group with a round of drinks and wrote:“A few hours kip and it’s time for a beer overlooking Republic Square.”

Another fan posted on Twitter about their re-routing to Doha in Qatar after an Air France flight was cancelled.

They posted: “Thanks to Air France over booking our flight to Armenia, we have been given compensation for not being allowed on the flight and are now going via Doha.

“Looks like we’ll be the only Scotland supporters on a Scotland trip in Qatar this year.”

Hibs fan, Jack Morrison, from Edinburgh, also made the long trip from Ireland to Armenia with his mates.

He wrote on Twitter: “Five flights, one train and a 5000-mile round trip for Armenia away.”

Scotland hope to get their bid to win their group in the UEFA Nations League back on track tonight.
