Taron Egerton breaks his silence on rumours suggesting he is the next James Bond

Taron Egerton has responded to rumours that he could be in line to play James Bond.

The actor, 33, notably known for playing Elton John in Rocketman, has also starred in Eddie the Eagle, the Sing films and Robin Hood.

He got his big break in 2014, when starring in one of his first movie roles, Kingsman: The Secret Service.

Recently, conversations about which actor could be selected to take over the role of James Bond from Daniel Craig have pinned Taron as a potential 007.

However, when speaking to Total Film about the rumours, he admitted he wasn’t involved in talks with the film’s producers.

Taron said: “Yeah. I mean, I think they’ve already got someone, and it’s not me.

“I mean, I’ve never been a part of the conversations. I’ve never met the Broccolis. They’ve never enquired about me. I’ve just never been one of the guys that they’re looking at.

“I just don’t think I’m the right person for that. I think there’s much, much, much better candidates for that role than me. But, you know, I’d be a very willing audience member. They’re brilliant films.”

Other potential frontrunners for the role include Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Henry Cavill and Rege-Jean Page.

It is thought that whoever will end up taking on the role is likely to be fairly young, with producer Barbara Broccoli saying she wants to sign an actor up for the role for about 10-12 years, with filming set to start in two years time.

She also admitted that not many would be willing to take on that commitment.

According to Esquire, Bond producer Michael G Wilson said at a BFI event that bosses were looking for someone around the same age as Daniel Craig was when he became Bond, ruling out anyone over the age of 40.

He said: "We’ve tried looking at younger people in the past. But trying to visualise it doesn’t work. Remember, Bond’s already a veteran. He’s had some experience. He’s a person who has been through the wars, so to speak. He’s probably been in the SAS or something.

"He [Bond] isn’t some kid out of high school that you can bring in and start off. That’s why it works for a thirty-something."
