Tariq’s distinctive “pause-and-deliver” action reignited allegations of “chucking” on social media, despite the International Cricket Council (ICC) having cleared his action twice last year. The controversy resurfaced almost immediately after his standout spell, with fans and former players weighing in on the legality and fairness of his approach.
Among the critics was veteran Indian off-spinner Anil Goswami, who questioned the legitimacy of Tariq’s pause during his delivery stride. Drawing a comparison with football regulations, Goswami wrote on social media, “Even football doesn’t allow players to pause during a penalty run-up anymore. How is this ok? Action — all good. But pause? That too while loading to deliver. This can’t be continued seriously.”
