A Target shopper who attempted to get a coupon due to having waited in line for approximately half an hour was shut down by the cashier in a response that received praise on social media.
Standing in line with her boyfriend, Emily Reidy told her followers she wanted to get “Target rich.”
Once it was her turn at the check-out, Emily asked the cashier, “We should get a coupon for standing in line so long, right?”
The Target worker wasn’t on board with the idea, as she replied, “Why? I’ve been standing here this long.”

“True, true,” Emily said, conceding to the employee’s point.
After she returned to her car with her boyfriend, Noah, the TikToker explained why she believed she deserved the free voucher.
“We were in line for 20 minutes in my defense. And we are the customers,” she argued.
“Fair, fair,” Noah said. “It was still awkward, though.”
In the comments of her video, Emily clarified that the self-checkout lines were closed, and only two regular check-out lines were open.
The video, captioned “got roasted good night,” received over 850,000 views since it was posted on Saturday (March 23).

People took to the comments to voice their opinions on the awkward interaction, with many siding with the retail employee.
“As someone who has worked as a Target cashier before, I love the cashier’s response,” someone wrote.
“Gross. If you’re mad about waiting, contact corporate,” another person said.
A third TikTok user was confused as to why Emily shared the video, writing, “You got roasted and STILL posted this to the internet?”
“Good for the employee. As a retail worker, I hate smart** comments like that,” a separate individual commented, while somebody else added, “I’m sorry girl, but you are very much giving KAREN.”
Another person said, “I was a bank teller, and customers used to always say ‘I wish you had more tellers,’ and every time I just told them, ‘Yeah, me too.'”
Others, however, expressed support for Emily’s shameless move.
“I have actually been given a gift card at Target for waiting in a long line,” a TikTok user shared.
An employee of one of the retailer’s stores also approved of her taking a shot for waiting in line. “I work at Target, and I would’ve said the same thing,” they said.
