Tank Bigsby: ‘I haven’t proven any of the things I want to prove’

The Jacksonville Jaguars have high hopes for third-round rookie running back Tank Bigsby, who has been a star throughout training camp and a standout in preseason.

Bigsby thinks it’s way too early to be taking any victory laps, though.

“To be honest, I feel like I still haven’t proven any of the things I want to prove,” Bigsby told News4Jax on Wednesday. “First, I want to prove to myself that I am who I tell myself I am. I want to continue to get better.”

In two preseason games, Bigsby has rushed for 122 yards on 22 carries for an average of 5.5 yards per carry. He’s broken free for at least 10 yards on four rushing attempts, tied for the most among all NFL running backs this preseason.

The rookie will presumably have a significant role in the Jaguars offense this season. But his goal for now is improvement.

“Of course I want to go out and be great, but I tell myself that how I improve from when something bad happens is go to the next play fast,” Bigsby said. “Don’t keep thinking about it and beating yourself up. That’s how I continue to get better and better, I don’t drag along with the bad things and the good things.”

Last season, Travis Etienne Jr. handled 49.1 percent of the rushing attempts, splitting time with James Robinson early in the year and JaMycal Hasty in the latter half of the season.
