It has been a mixed week on the loan front at Tottenham Hotspur.
Having seen Troy Parrott and Jack Clarke on the scoresheet in midweek, a couple of players were not in action for their respective clubs over the weekend for different reasons. Kion Etete unfortunately missed out through injury, while there was no place in the Charlton Athletic squad for Nile John, whose wait to make his first Addicks appearance goes on.
Alfie Whiteman is also still waiting to take to the pitch for Swedish side Degerfors once again as this year's Allsvenskan campaign begins at the start of April. So how exactly did the rest of Spurs loanees get on over the past week? football.london takes a look.
Tanguy Ndombele (Lyon)
It was an up and down week for Ndombele and Lyon following his return to the team.
Absent just over a week ago for their 4-1 victory away at Lorient due to muscle pain, the midfielder was back in the squad in midweek as they won 1-0 at Porto in the first leg of their Europa League Round of 16 tie.
Playing the full 90 minutes out in Portugal, Ndombele and his teammates will be hoping for more success this Thursday when the teams meet again at the Groupama Stadium.
Unfortunately Porto weren't able to back up their European win when they returned to domestic action on Sunday, losing 4-2 at home to Rennes, who were 4-0 to the good after 50 minutes of the contest.
Ndombele played 79 minutes of the defeat and received a booking 20 minutes in.
Bryan Gil (Valencia)
Valencia could only manage a point on Saturday following a 0-0 draw away at Getafe.
Gil did start for Los Che but couldn't help inspire his side to victory as they failed to register a shot on target against their lowly opponents.
Valencia don't have a game in midweek so they have to wait until Saturday afternoon to return to action when they travel to Elche.
The 21-year-old has now made nine appearances for the Spanish side, registering one assist since his switch from Tottenham.
Giovani Lo Celso (Villarreal)
Villarreal kept in touch with their rivals for a European spot after a slender 1-0 win over Celta Vigo on Saturday.
Lo Celso started once again for the Yellow Submarine and played in an attacking midfield role during his 80 minutes on the pitch.
Attention now turns to Wednesday evening's crucial Champions League Round of 16 second leg tie away at Juventus, with the score level at 1-1 from the first leg.
Villarreal will then return to league action on Sunday with an away fixture against relegation-threatened Cadiz.
Lo Celso has made seven appearances for Unai Emery's team since his deadline day switch from Tottenham.
Pape Matar Sarr (Metz)
Sarr was back in the Metz team on Sunday and played the whole game as they picked up a point following a 0-0 draw at home to Lens.
In and out of the side since the end of October, it will have done the youngster the world of good to get 90 minutes in the tank after a frustrating past few months.
However, it's now about ensuring that becomes a regular occurrence as he aims to show Tottenham what he's about when he returns to N17 in the summer.
Sarr will be hoping he has done enough to start away at Rennes next Sunday when Metz play in their final Ligue 1 game before the international break.
Cameron Carter-Vickers (Celtic)
It was a rare weekend without a game for Carter-Vickers and Celtic as they instead play on Monday evening in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup against Dundee United.
Already winning the Scottish League Cup back in December against Hibs, Ange Postecoglou will be intent on ensuring there is no cup shock at Tannadice as his team target the treble.
Carter-Vickers' loan spell has been a huge success so far and the player is reportedly interesting a number of Premier League clubs.
The 24-year-old has three goals and one assist from his 35 games in all competitions for Celtic so far in 2021/22.
Troy Parrott (MK Dons)
It has been a very good week for Parrott at MK Dons after his long goal drought finally came to an end.
Without a goal since the end of October, the frontman netted a brace in a 3-1 win over Cheltenham Town to keep up the pressure on the top two.
Involved in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday with high-flying Wigan Athletic making the trip to Stadium MK, the hosts secured a valuable point late on with Harry Darling's effort two minutes from time seeing the game end all square at 1-1.
Parrott played the full 90 minutes on the right of MK Dons' front three but unfortunately couldn't find the back of the net again.
The Republic of Ireland international will be back in action again on Saturday when his side travel to Cambridge United.
Kion Etete (Cheltenham Town)
Absent in midweek against MK Dons with an ankle injury, Etete again missed out for Cheltenham Town on Saturday as they won 3-1 away at Morecambe.
Speaking after the game, Robins boss Michael Duff opened up on the striker's absence and what Tottenham had told the club about their player following his injury issue.
"He wasn’t close in the end," said Duff, as reported by Gloucestershire Live. "Not that he wasn’t close to being selected, but he has an injury and we have scanned it, he’s seen a specialist, Tottenham have scanned it and they want him to see one of their people, but he can’t get in until Wednesday.
"Ultimately he is their player. Whether he’s fit or not is irrelevant, they have said he’s not allowed to play, so he’s not allowed to play. It’s up to them.
"We are hoping and expecting it’ll be deemed okay and he’ll be available for next week, but it’s been taken out of our hands."
Jack Clarke (Sunderland)
Clarke finished an impressive week in style as he helped Sunderland to a 2-0 victory over Crewe.
On the scoresheet in midweek with a fine effort in their 3-1 win over Fleetwood, the winger got an assist to his name as he linked up with Patrick Roberts for their second strike on Saturday afternoon.
Clarke was in fact playing in a slightly different role to usual as boss Alex Neil looked to fit more of his attacking players into the side.
With former Spurs man Dennis Cirkin playing as part of the back three, Clarke was on the left and in more of a wing-back role in Sunderland's 3-4-1-2 setup.
The role still gave the York-born attacker the opportunity to attack throughout his 90 minutes on the pitch as he helped the Black Cats register another win in their promotion push.
Clarke and Sunderland face a trip to Lincoln City on Saturday afternoon.
Nile John (Charlton Athletic)
Tottenham will be having big concerns over John's loan move to Charlton Athletic after he missed out on the matchday squad in their 2-1 defeat against Accrington Stanley.
An unused substitute in his four appearances on the Charlton bench so far, the 19-year-old was left out completely for the trip to Lancashire.
Speaking after their defeat against Accrington, Addicks boss Johnnie Jackson opened up on John and Chelsea loanne Juan Castillo's lack of game time.
“I’ve got players in those positions who, at the moment, they’re in front of them," said the former Spurs man, as reported by South London Press.
“I’m judging every day on what I see in training. There’s been opportunities. Nile has been unlucky because he’s not had a lot of opportunities.
“Juan has had a couple of opportunities that he didn’t really take. Nile can count himself unlucky that he’s not had opportunities. I have been looking to try to get him on the pitch at certain times but the nature of the games and state of play, having to make early substitutions in certain games has stopped me being able to do that.
“[During Saturday’s loss at Accrington] we had Conor [Washington] back and Sean Clare coming back in that meant that two from the previous squad had to miss out. That was just down to my team selection.”
Kacper Kurylowicz (Potters Bar Town)
The goalkeeper has headed out on loan to non-league side Potters Bar Town, who play in the Isthmian Premier League.
He was once again an unused substitute for their 3-2 victory away at Carshalton Athletic.
