Heavy rain has already lashed Chennai and surrounding areas as northeast monsoon activity intensifies across Tamil Nadu, raising concerns over waterlogging, traffic movement and school attendance. Rainwater stagnation was reported beneath Chetpet bridge, while the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more showers across Chennai and several other districts on Saturday, October 17.
The weather department has warned of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in parts of Tamil Nadu, including districts around Chennai. With further spells expected, parents and students are also checking whether schools and colleges have declared a holiday due to rain. However, an IMD weather warning does not automatically mean educational institutions are closed.
