TRICHY: A special police team arrested two persons for kidnapping a retired bank employee and looting cash and jewels from his house near Musiri in Trichy district.
According to the police, Muthusamy, 63, who was a former employee with the Canara Bank, has been staying alone at his house at T Pettai since his wife’s demise.
When he was returning home from a relative’s house at Valaiyeduppu on his moped on July 3, an unidentified gang intercepted him and kidnapped him on a car after blindfolding and tying his hands. The gang took him to a secluded place and attacked with knife asking the keys of their house and lockers. Unable to bear their torture, Muthusamy gave the keys. Two of the gang went over to the house and looted 12 lakh cash and six sovereigns of gold from his house. Then the gang dropped him at Sikkathambur near Thuraiyur on July 4.
Based on a tip off, the police team arrested Raja, 25, a welder, of Erakudi village and his friend Divakar, 25. Further investigations are on to nab other persons involved in the crime, said the police. tnn
