Tamil Nadu: Three special teams formed to nab robbers

TIRUPUR: The city police have formed three special teams to nab a four-member gang that robbed a family of 12 lakh and 15 sovereigns of gold jewellery on Sunday evening.

The masked men had entered the house of Sangameswaran, 60, on the second floor of a commercial building at Odakkadu, around 3.50pm. They threatened the family at knife-point and took away the valuables.

The family initially claimed that the robbers took 50 lakh and 40 sovereigns of gold ornaments, police said. “When the gang members snatched her mobile phone, Sangameswaran’s 22-year-old daughter told them that it was provided by her employer and that she would lose her job if it goes missing. They returned the phone,” a police officer said.

Police commissioner A G Babu visited the crime scene. The only CCTV camera in the building had stopped working months ago, police said.TNN
