Tamil Nadu: Office goers irked over suburban train delay

CHENNAI: Commuters are irked that suburban trains get delayed on the Chengalpet-Beach route during the morning peak hours.

On Wednesday, people who board trains at stations between Chengalpet and Tambaram were late for their work after a train to Beach got delayed by close to half an hour, leading to crowding at the platform and on the train. Commuters, who waited for a long, protested at Guduvancherry railway station on Wednesday.

Marshal M, a commuter said, "The train which was supposed to reach at 9.20am reached after 9.45am and I reached office 45 minutes late." N Karthik, a frequent comuter, said commuters who board trains at Perungalathur have a confusion as to which line the trains would come on most of the days.

People are irked as despite railways opening a third line between Chengalpet and Tambaram, services are getting affected. A railway official said that the train was delayed due to a problem with level crossing at Singaperumal koil. He added that suburban trains will soon be operated on the new line on a regular basis and a time table is being worked out for the third line," he added
