Tamil Nadu: MNM manifesto promises graft-free local governance

CHENNAI: Gearing up for the urban local body polls after the party’s dismal show in the recently held rural local body polls, Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiyam (MNM) has published its poll manifesto to attract young voters in corporations and municipalities.

Banking on ‘corruption-free administration’ slogan, Kamal Haasan said the state was in a “dilapidated” condition and promised to give “clean and efficient administration with the participation of the people” in the urban local bodies with the support of science and technology.

The party will guarantee free and portable drinking water and ensure proper rainwater harvesting system in each household. It will also take efforts to implement the technology (atmospheric water generator) to extract water from air, according to the manifesto.

Alike Grama Sabha, area and ward sabha would be held regularly to redress the grievances of the people, he said.

The party candidates, if elected, would submit a monthly action-taken report to the people of the ward. The MNM has also promised to end manual scavenging by adopting high-end technology. It said smart bins would be installed in each street to recycle waste.
