CHENNAI: Hundreds of teachers who recently got transferred to posts revived in government schools after a big migration of students from private schools are yet to get their salary for March and April.
More than six lakh students have migrated from private schools to government schools during the pandemic. To maintain the teacher-students ratio, the school education department revived 3,000 teacher posts across the state during the recent transfer counselling.
"We are deployed for board examination related work. Some teachers are even struggling to commute to exam centres and could not repay their EMIs on time," one of the affected teachers said.
Othes said they did not have any information that these posts were revived or created based on the need before the counselling. "It is also not clear whom to approach to solve the issue as district education officials have no idea," a postgraduate teacher said.
The state government is disbursing the salary to its staff and teachers through Integrated Financial and Human Resource Management System (IFHRMS).
"When reviving the post, the individual school or department of treasuries should have communicated to the IFHRMS under which GO the post was created. It would not have created any issue. Recently, the school education department has issued a pay authorisation order for 3000 graduate teachers. However, only a very few teachers got their salary so far," said P Patric Raymond, general secretary of the Tamil Nadu Graduate Teachers Federation.
“More than 100 postgraduate teachers who got transferred for the schools with more students are yet to receive their salary for March and April," said P Perumalsamy, state president of the Tamil Nadu Post Graduate Teachers Association.
School education commissioner K Nanthakumar said the department got the approval from the finance department for the revival of 3,000 teacher positions. “We have issued orders for paying their salary. Teachers from 25 districts have drawn their salaries. We have some issues in the sub-treasury office in the remaining districts. These issues are being addressed and will be sorted out within a week," he said.
