Tamil Nadu: 50-year-old man gets 20 yrs in jail for sexually assaulting minor

CHENNAI: A special court to deal with Pocso cases sentenced a 50-year-old watchman to undergo 20 years rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl at a hamlet near Ranipet town.

The court also sentenced him to undergo one year imprisonment for illegally confining the minor girl. Both terms will run concurrently. In another case, a special court in Villupuram sentenced a 23-year-old dailywage worker to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl in a village near Tindivanam five years ago.

(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
