Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker has told fans he will no longer be signing autographs, while saying: “Please don’t be offended.”
The 40-year-old musician explained his decision in a series of posts on his Instagram Story, writing: “Hey guys quick PSA to say due to the rise of aggressive autograph hounds I won’t be signing anything or doing photos out the front of hotels or at airports at all anymore.
“So if you happen to catch me please don’t be offended if I say no.”
“I wasn’t that passionate about it before but they’ve started using kids which I think is all kinds of wrong,” he continued. “Love you guys.”
Parker added that he would also no longer be meeting with fans outside venues after shows, citing “the obvious security risk”.
“The numbers were getting out of control and we don’t have the security to manage it … so my team has asked me not to,” he said. “So please have the best time at the shows and get home safe!”
Parker isn’t the first famous face to call time on unofficial meet-and-greets and signing sessions.
Billie Eilish made the same decision in 2019, saying she had “realised all anyone did was sell everything that I signed”.
The “bad guy” singer said some overzealous fans would “wait outside for you and then immediately they don’t get what they want and they boo you, and f***ing curse at you. I’m like, ‘Bro, I’m 17’.”
In 2024, Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis pleaded with a group of fans who were following him down the street, telling them: “Guys, please, stop, stop, I’m not going to sign anything. I literally have to go!”
“I’m sorry, that was a lot, that scared the s*** out of me,” he continued in video footage of the incident. “For real, I’m just a human being. Please, I’m going home – good night.”
And in July, Heated Rivalry star Hudson Williams confronted a group of autograph hunters who allegedly followed him to his temporary residence in Paris.
In a video circulated widely on social media, the Canadian star could be seen challenging three men who approached him with photographs and marker pens shortly after he got out of a vehicle.
When one of the men apologised, the 25-year-old actor could be heard saying: “No, no ‘sorry.’ You can’t do this. This is really f****** weird. You can’t f****** do this.
“You guys aren’t fans. You’re being really creepy and you just followed me, ok? You don’t do this. You don’t do this.”
Williams then took a stack of photographs from one of the men before unsuccessfully attempting to burn them with a lighter.
