A talented singer from Tallaght is set to launch his much anticipated second EP in The Workman's Club in Dublin this week.
Luke Clerkin from Tallaght has over the years worked with highly renowned producers such as Declan Legge, Gavin Doyle and jaako. Last year, Luke released his successful EP 'Owl Compass' and took part in a fundraising gig for people in Ukraine. Coming from the working class area of Tallaght in Dublin, Luke wears his heart and his hometown on his sleeve, using his music to not only escape his own struggles with mental health, but to also help others with theirs.
The current North Clondalkin Library Musician in Residence has just finished recording his ‘Live From The Library’ EP which will be released on Friday, February 24 with a very special launch gig in The Workman's Club. This release will mark the beginning of a new journey for Luke’s music, showing his songs in their purest form, with vulnerabilities and imperfections included.

Speaking to Dublin Live this week, Luke said that he is "very excited" about the launch of his latest Live from The Library EP. He said: "I'm very excited to release the EP because it feels like it's a new beginning of sorts. It's my most honest and vulnerable release so far, going back to the source of where the songs first came from, using just the guitar and vocals to carry the emotion. It's also a great opportunity to showcase the amazing Creative Studio in North Clondalkin Library, where I'm musician in residence."
Luke said that the inspiration for the Live EP came from difficulties he was experiencing in his personal life. He said: "I was dealing with a lot in my personal life and I wanted to capture that emotion, and recording everything live was the best way to do that. My friend and fellow singer songwriter Robbie Raidan came in and he engineered the songs and coached me through the performances."
Luke explained how they recorded ten songs over two afternoons back in December 2022, and that he will be only releasing five he he "wasn't 100% happy "with all of the performances. He added: "Two of the songs have been released before but not in this form, so I'm very excited to see what people think of them and the new songs."
Luke described his upcoming gig in The Workman's Club as his "biggest show in years" and that music fans can expect a couple of surprises on the night. He said: "The Workman’s Club has always been one of my favourite rooms to play, and getting the opportunity to headline it again is both scary and exciting!"
After a busy 2022 which saw Luke release his 'Owl Compass EP' and play slots at Electric Picnic and headlining a sold out Cobblestone show, 2023 is shaping up to be just as busy. After the release of his Live EP, Luke will then tour Ireland in late April with Bríd Lyons before embarking on a busy festival season.
Later in the year Luke will also recording his long awaited debut album, which has an expected November release. ‘Live From The Library’ will be released on all streaming and download platforms on February 24.
The launch will take place in The Workman’s Club on Friday, February 24 at 8pm with special guests Bríd Lyons and The Accidental Rapper. Entry is €10 on Eventbrite or €13 at the door.
