'Tales of Eternia Remaster' Leaked by PEGI Rating, Hinting at Upcoming JRPG Revival For Nintendo Switch

A new PEGI classification has fueled widespread speculation that "Tales of Eternia Remastered" is in development.

The European ratings board recently listed the title with a PEGI 12 rating, citing moderate violence and occasional strong language. While no official announcement has been made, the listing has quickly drawn attention from JRPG fans who were expecting this kind of update for a long time.

PEGI Listing Points To Nintendo Switch Release

The classification specifically references a Nintendo Switch version of the game, though it does not clarify whether it will be exclusive to the platform.

As with many early ratings leaks, the listing has not been confirmed by Bandai Namco. However, it strongly suggests that the game is being prepared for release across modern hardware.

Of course, fans know that Bandai Namco is curious about what lies ahead if they revisit the classic entries in the "Tales" franchise. This could be the perfect time to do that.

'Tales Remaster' Project Continues Franchise Revival

The potential remaster fits into Bandai Namco's popular "Tales Remaster Project," which celebrates the series' 30th anniversary.

According to GameRant, the initiative began with "Tales of Graces f Remastered" in 2025, followed by updated releases of "Tales of Xillia" and "Tales of Berseria."

If "Tales of Eternia" is included, it would mark one of the earliest titles in the franchise to receive a modern overhaul.

A Classic JRPG With A Deep Legacy

Originally released in Japan in 2000 and later in North America in 2001 under the name "Tales of Destiny 2," the game follows protagonist Reid Hershel as he attempts to prevent a world-ending catastrophe known as the Grand Fall. The title later received a PSP port, though it never officially launched in North America.

While not the most commercially dominant entry in the series, "Tales of Eternia" remains a fan-favorite for its traditional JRPG structure, character-driven storytelling, and real-time battle system.

Franchise Influence Beyond Gaming

The game's influence extended beyond its original release, inspiring a short-lived MMORPG adaptation in 2006 and an anime series that aired in 2001.

The anime reinterpreted the game's story while retaining key characters and themes, helping solidify its cult status among long-time fans.
