A talented young dancer is preparing for her biggest performance in a prestigious worldwide competition. On July 30 Katelyn Patterson from Wallsend will be flying to San Sebastian in Spain to represent England at the Dance World Cup.
The 19 year old will compete in the ten-day competition, in the senior section by performing professional street dancing.
Katelyn said: “I’ve been dancing since the age of four, just a few years ago I started street dancing and found myself joining the competitions straight away. It’ll be my first time this year being a solo dancer, and I’m very excited and I’m hoping I will be a finalist.”

Katelyn’s mum, Julie Patterson, 51, said: “We are absolutely bursting with pride and I know her nana Betty will be too.”
In 2019, Katelyn became a silver medallist in Japan at a worldwide dance competition. But in 2020, due to COVID, she couldn’t attend any further dance competitions after that and now this year is her first year back performing at international competitions.
The 'excited' dancer told Chroniclelive she is grateful for the opportunities she has been given through her dance school Smiths Academy in Newcastle. She said: “The support and help I’ve received from the school has been amazing, it had been difficult throughout COVID as all dance classes and competitions were stopped, it’s so great to be back.”
She is now preparing to study at Northumbria University in Graphic Design in September alongside doing her 'professional' dancing.
