Two talented youngsters have been able to spread some festive cheer through art.
Pippin and Fred Fitch from Corsock donated goods to the Stepping Stones Food Bank in Castle Douglas on Monday.
They’d bought the food with money raised by selling pots and little pottery brooches they had made at home where parents Doug Fitch and Hannah McAndrew are potters.
Hannah said: “The children are often in the workshop with us and are learning about making pots.
“They sold them at our open workshop during Spring Fling, then at Potfest in the Park in Penrith and more recently at Corsock Craft Fair. In total at these events they have raised £441 this year.
“We contacted Stepping Stones who let us know what would be most useful to them at the moment and at the weekend we took the children shopping with the money that they had raised.
“We feel it makes much more sense to them to be handing over food rather than to just give the money. They chose two full trolleys of donations, tinned essentials, some Christmas treats and small gifts to hopefully ease, even if for a short time, some of the worries people are experiencing.
“On Monday they proudly delivered their donations to the staff and volunteers at Stepping Stones.”
Six-year-old Pippin goes to Springholm Primary with four-year-old Fred at the village nursery.
Hannah added: “It is at once wonderful that they have been able to do this and that they are, in their own small way, able to make a difference but simultaneously frustrating and maddening and heart breaking that this is needed. It should not be needed, the situation is dire and with the current state of things shows no sign of improving any time soon.
