Takehiro Tomiyasu injury boost confirmed by Mikel Arteta ahead of Arsenal vs Brentford

Takehiro Tomiyasu is available for Arsenal's Premier League clash against Brentford.

Gunners manager Mikel Arteta confirmed the injury boost in his pre-match press conference at London Colney on Friday afternoon where he also revealed no fresh concerns.

Tomiyasu has missed the last two games with a recurrence of a calf problem that he sustained against Liverpool last month as Arsenal were beaten in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

However, he has been in training - albeit away from his teammates - either side of the 1-0 win over Wolves and Arteta has revealed that the defender is in contention to face the Bees.

"We are all good," Arteta told reporters. "The doubt was Tomiyasu which is still not perfect, but he's trained the last few days so he is in contention and we can use him.

"That's very positive.

"We know that Gabi [Gabriel Martinelli] is out with the red card he picked up against Wolves and the rest of the players are OK."

It remains to be seen if Tomiyasu earns an immediate recall to the Arsenal XI on Saturday as the obvious candidates to continue in his absence are Cedric Soares and Benjamin White.

It was the former who got the nod against Wolves and he did his chances of retaining his place in the side no harm with an impressive outing at Molineux.

Arteta has also confirmed that Bernd Leno is available for selection after the goalkeeper missed the win over Wolves because of a positive Covid-19 test.

"Yes, he is fine," the Spaniard added. "He recovered well, he didn't have too many symptoms, he's been training the last few days and he felt good.

"He will be available."
