Those browsing takeaway options on Deliveroo were recently left surprised to see cinema food being offered by ODEON, allowing them to enjoy movie snacks from the comfort of their own living room. However, not everyone is too keen on paying cinema prices for a night in when there are cheaper high street options available.
Film buffs can now order themselves a helping of nachos, hot dogs, and popcorn ahead of their next movie night, as well as Tango ice blasts, sweet treats, and alcoholic drinks. A large popcorn will set you back £5.99, plus delivery fees, while a hot dog from the chain costs £6.50 plus a delivery charge. A bag of sharing Maltesers is being sold for £3.49.

To put this into perspective, a 250-gram tub of salty and sweet popcorn from Iceland costs less than half the price at just £2.50, while a 170 gram tub of Sephra sweet and salty popcorn from Tesco costs £2.20. A packet of 10 Herta frankfurter sausages and Warburton hot dog buns from Asda would set shoppers back just £1.89 and £1.30 respectively, while a 102-gram pouch of Malteasers can be bought for just £2.15 from Morrisons.
Meanwhile, the exact same can of Edinburgh Gin Raspberry Gin Fizz - which costs £5.75 from ODEON - can be purchased from Sainsbury’s for just £1.90 a pop.
A number of people have been left scratching their heads over this relatively pricey delivery option, taking to social media to vent their outrage and confusion.
One person deadpanned: “Love the idea of someone ordering Odeon food on Deliveroo. The stuff you usually only pay for through lack of choice, delivered to your home.”
Another joked: “Great news, my local Odeon is now on Deliveroo. Because watching a film at home just isn't the same unless you've paid £23 for a large popcorn, a Coke, and a bag of Minstrels.”
A third person wrote: “Utterly baffled to see Odeon on Deliveroo. You can now enjoy sky-high prices for cinema snacks at home.”
The Mirror has reached out to ODEON for comment.
