Take-Two boss says GTA 6's $100 Ultimate Edition is outselling its cheaper alternative thanks to "avid consumers"

GTA 6 Lucia.

Believe it or not, GTA 6 is apparently seeing more Ultimate Edition copies selling pre-launch than those of the Standard Edition version – $100 price tag be damned.

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick confirms as much in a new interview with CNBC (available to listen to via YouTube), admitting that the Standard Edition (which costs $80) is not selling equally to the Ultimate (priced at a higher point of $100).

"Actually," says the executive, "it is skewing more to the premium edition." Zelnick explains that this might have to do with the Grand Theft Auto series' longtime fans.

According to the Take-Two lead, these fans are likely the folks who are opting for the more expensive version of GTA 6 – you know, commitment to Rockstar Games' beloved franchise and all that. "But that might be a reflection of the fact that the most avid consumers are the ones who are pre-ordering," as Zelnick puts it.

He also explains the difference between the Standard and Ultimate Editions of the game: "You get additional content" in the latter.

We do already know what this translates to: some digital goodies, but nothing that impacts gameplay, and sadly, no real-life collectibles. With that in mind, I'm honestly personally a bit surprised to learn that more Ultimate Edition pre-orders are going out than the Standard Edition, but I suppose Zelnick's point makes sense.

Fans have been waiting nearly 13 years for GTA 6 to hit the market, and nostalgia itself is no laughing matter.

I'm interested to see how this balance changes come the GTA 6 release, as well as its launch (that we all hope will happen) on PC – will it still favor the premium version?

Don't expect a GTA 6 discount anytime soon, says Take-Two CEO: "We preserved our pricing on Grand Theft Auto 5 for a very long time"
