Take steps to conserve water: Tamil Nadu PWD engineers

TRICHY: Tamil Nadu PWD Senior Engineers Association has alleged that the state government is not transparent in the execution of projects and schemes and that it was neither uploading information on its website nor providing it if sought through RTI.

Speaking at an awareness meeting with farmers on water conservation and development of irrigation systems in Trichy, association general secretary A Veerappan said on Saturday that there are no proper plans to conserve water the state is getting through rains.

There was a need to build check dams across rivers wherever required as well as desilt lakes, tanks and farm ponds. Farmers aired doubts regarding the execution of Godavari-Cauvery-Guntar river linking project at the meeting.

Retired chief engineers MP Durairaj, K Manuraj, R Paranthaman, V Vembadi, M Moorthy and T Shanmuga Vadivel spoke. Farmers and functionaries of their associations participated.
