Take NDPS Act accused for wife's delivery: Punjab and Haryana high court to cops

Chandigarh: In an order of its kind, the Punjab and Haryana high court has ordered the Haryana police to take an accused in a drug case to his native place in Jharkhand so that he can remain with his pregnant wife at the time of her delivery. The court has even ordered the Haryana government to bear the expenses likely to be incurred on the delivery and diet, etc of his wife. Two armed guards have been ordered to stay with the accused for two months at his native place.

The order, rarely heard in the canons of judicial proceedings, has been passed, by Justice Sureshwar Thakur as the accused could not be released on interim bail in view of the charges faced by him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
