Take 48 days off work using just 19 days holiday in 2023

In the coming year, you may be lucky enough to be one of the people who can book off 48 days of work using just 19 days of your annual leave. It comes thanks to numerous bank holidays in 2023, including the coronation of King Charles III.

Most full-time workers here in the UK are legally entitled to 28 days of paid leave every year and one trick many might be looking to use this year includes using just four days of your annual holiday leave to get 10 days off in a row over Easter. And a similar trick could be used in May, giving you 10 days off with four days holiday in time for the May bank holiday.

And that's not all, there are similar tricks throughout the year - including summer and even over the Christmas period, if you're already looking that far ahead. As Leicestershire Live reports, here are the dates you need to book for maximum time off - better get in there quick before your whole team suss out what you're up to and beat you to it.

April

The Easter Bank Holiday in 2023 will fall on April 7 (Good Friday) and April 10 (Easter Monday). To give yourself a 10-day long break, you'll only need to book the following four days off:

  • Monday, April 3
  • Tuesday, April 4
  • Wednesday, April 5
  • Thursday, April 6

May

The early May Bank Holiday falls on Monday, May 1 in 2023 and Brits get a second on Monday, May 8 thanks to the coronation of King Charles III.

Although workers will only get two days off, they can stretch it to 10 days by booking these four days as annual leave:

  • Tuesday, May 2
  • Wednesday, May 3
  • Thursday, May 4
  • Friday, May 5

May/June

There will be a Spring Bank Holiday at the end of May on Monday, May 29. Booking off the following four dates can get you another nine consecutive days off:

  • Tuesday, May 30
  • Wednesday, May 31
  • Thursday, June 1
  • Friday, June 2

August/September

The Summer Bank Holiday in 2023 will fall on Monday, August 28. Another nine day holiday could be yours if you choose to book these four days off:

  • Tuesday, August 29
  • Wednesday, August 30
  • Thursday, August 31
  • Friday, September 1

December

Workers will get two Bank Holidays in December next year. The first falls on Christmas day (Monday, December 25) and the second falls on boxing day (Tuesday, December 26).

But you can stretch the two days off to a huge 10-day holiday - taking into account the New Year's Day bank holiday (Monday, January 1) - if you book these three days off on leave:

  • Wednesday, December 27
  • Thursday, December 28
  • Friday, December 29
