Tahith Chong has taken to social media to clarify the situation following reports of a knifepoint robbery at his home over the weekend.
A report in the Sun claimed that the Manchester United youngster was "robbed at knifepoint" after "masked raiders" broke into his home at 3am. The robbers are said to have stolen thousands of pounds worth of possessions - including jewellery, watches and designers bags - and "held a blade" to Chong's throat. They are also alleged to have mocked the Dutch winger over his lack of security.
On Sunday, Chong posted on social media offering clarity on the reports and says that while he was the subject of a break-in, it happened months ago and that he is "doing fine".
The winger, who is on loan at Championship club Birmingham City, wrote: "Good morning to everyone. Yesterday there was a report that came out as terrifying as the article may sound, I am doing fine and this was a few months back, so not as some reported last night. Thankyou for all the messages and happy Mother's Day to everyone," followed by a love heart emoji.
United declined to comment on the incident involving Chong, but a club source told the Manchester Evening News : "We are working with our players to review and strengthen the security around their homes." Chong is the latest United player to be burgled after recent attacks on Paul Pogba, Victor Lindelof and Jesse Lingard.
Pogba was the most recent United star to be robbed. His home was broken into during United's Champions League game against Atletico Madrid on March 15. Pogba's children were in the property at the time and his World Cup winners' medal was stolen. "I am ok, my family too," said Pogba. "I had quite a surprising week... when I went home, I discovered that my home was robbed following the entry of three people who stole my safe. There was my mother’s jewellery in there, my World Cup medal."
Pogba went on to say: "What scared me the most, is that my two children were at home with the nanny during the incident. She heard everything, called my wife and security, then locked herself with the boys in a room. For several days after, she was in shock. The most important thing is that my children are doing fine."
Chong appears happy to now move on from the incident. He has had an up-and-down season at Birmingham. After joining up on loan at the start of the season he quickly caught the eye with a clutch of eye-raising performances for Lee Bowyer's side. But that was halted when he suffered a groin injury during training last October. It led to a operation to address the injury and meant months on the sidelines.
He returned to action last month and in his first start back he scored his first senior goal in a win over Bristol City. Chong will be hoping to get as much game time as possible in City's last seven games before returning to Old Trafford in the summer.
