T20 World Cup: Australia's Mitchell Marsh provides injury update on Mitchell Starc

NEW DELHI: Australia's T20 World Cup campaign kicked off with a solid win against Oman at Kensington Oval, but concerns emerged as fast-bowler Mitchell Starc exited the field with a cramp during the match.

Captain Mitchell Marsh provided an update on Starc's condition, assuring fans that the injury wasn't serious and the team was cautious not to risk further harm ahead of their showdown with defending champions England.

"Took his time and showed his experience. Starcy was just a cramp so didn't want to take a chance. When Starcy says I am okay to go off you let him go off," Marsh stated in the post-match presentation, emphasizing Starc's importance to the team and the decision to prioritize his well-being.

Expressing anticipation for the upcoming clash with England, Marsh acknowledged the unique challenges posed by the tournament conditions, which favor a different style of play compared to the IPL.

"It's not going to be the 200 types in this tournament. We are kind of going to the old T20 style here in this tournament," Marsh remarked, hinting at the need for a more calculated approach in batting.

Marcus Stoinis emerged as the hero of the match, contributing a blistering 67* off 36 balls and bagging three wickets to secure the Player of the Match award. With Stoinis leading the charge and David Warner's steady 56, Australia posted a competitive total of 164/5. Starc, Nathan Ellis, and Adam Zampa then combined forces to limit Oman to 125/9, sealing Australia's victory.

Looking ahead, Australia prepare to face England in what promises to be a thrilling encounter on Saturday at the same venue.
