SZA wins big at the 2024 Grammys, emotional acceptance speech

After years of wanting to play in Mexico City, just got to play 4 of the most unforgettable shows for the most beautiful and generous fans. Feeling so grateful for the memories we’re making together o

During the 2024 Grammy Awards, SZA, the talented R&B singer, delivered an emotional acceptance speech while receiving the award for Best R&B Song. As she took the stage, she shared her excitement and gratitude with the audience.

Out of breath from changing and taking a shot, SZA quickly greeted her friend Lizzo, who presented her with the award. The two artists go way back, having performed together on a small tour back in 2013. SZA expressed how amazing it was to share the stage with Lizzo and conveyed her immense gratitude.

In her heartfelt speech, SZA took the opportunity to thank her parents, her support system at TDE (Top Dawg Entertainment), God, and her godparents. With tears in her eyes, she expressed her overwhelming emotions, emphasizing how far she had come and how surreal the moment felt.

Before concluding her speech, SZA gave a special shoutout to Taylor Swift, who was in the audience. She added a touch of humor, acknowledging her less-than-attractive crying face, and wished everyone a good evening before hurriedly leaving the stage.

SZA won the award for her song 'Snooze' from her 2022 album SOS. The track triumphed over other nominees, including Coco Jones' 'ICU,' Halle's 'Angel,' Robert Glasper ft. SiR & Alex Isley's 'Back to Love,' and Victoria Monét's 'On My Mama.'

Coco Jones, whose album What I Didn't Tell You garnered several Grammy nominations, including Best R&B Album and Best New Artist, won the Best R&B Performance award for her song 'ICU.' Feeling overwhelmed with emotions, she expressed her gratitude and highlighted the importance of perseverance.

Halle, who recently became a mother, received a nomination for her song 'Angel' from her eponymous album. As one of the youngest Grammy nominees in history, Halle, along with her sister Chloe, has demonstrated immense talent over the years.

Robert Glasper's 'Back to Love,' featuring SiR and Alex Isley, received its 14th nomination at this year's Grammy Awards. Glasper, a highly acclaimed producer, previously won the Best R&B Album category in 2020.

SZA's nine nominations made her the most-nominated artist at the 2024 Grammys. Alongside the Best R&B Song win, SZA received nominations for Song of the Year, Best R&B Performance, and Record of the Year for 'Kill Bill.' She was also recognized in other categories, such as Best Traditional R&B Performance and Best Melodic Rap Performance.

Furthermore, SZA was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her haunting duet 'Ghost in the Machine' with Phoebe Bridgers. With a total of 24 Grammy nominations throughout her career, SZA has already secured a win, having previously received the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance in 2022 with Doja Cat for their song 'Kiss Me More.'

Victoria Monét garnered seven nominations this year, placing her among the top contenders, along with SZA and Phoebe Bridgers. Apart from the Best R&B Song nomination, Monét received recognition for Record of the Year with 'On My Mama,' as well as for Best R&B Album and Best New Artist.

Monét truly made history with her 2-year-old daughter, Hazel, becoming the youngest-ever Grammy nominee. Hazel was featured on the song 'Hollywood,' which earned a nomination for Best Traditional R&B Performance and featured iconic artists Earth, Wind & Fire.

The 66th Annual Grammy Awards, held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, celebrated the incredible talent within the music industry. SZA and other deserving artists were honored for their exceptional contributions, leaving a lasting impact on the world of music.
