Following the fall of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime, the Syrian people are cautiously optimistic about the future while still grappling with the scars of the dictatorship.
Hind Habib Siddik, a resident of Damascus, shared her heartbreaking story of losing two of her children to the violence under Assad's rule. Despite the pain of her loss, she expressed a sense of relief and hope now that the regime has been toppled.
Looking ahead, Siddik emphasized the importance of safety for her remaining children and stressed the need for a leader who can focus on rebuilding the economy and education system in Syria. She made it clear that forgiveness is not on her agenda, as she vowed to never forgive those responsible for her sons' deaths.
Reflecting on the past, Siddik noted that happiness was a rare commodity under the previous regime but expressed gratitude for the newfound sense of joy and peace in the current circumstances.
