The rebel offensive against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime has sparked celebrations among Syrians residing outside of the country. In a display of solidarity and support for the rebels, Syrians gathered outside the Russian Embassy in London, waving “Free Syria” flags and chanting slogans in jubilation. Some individuals held signs expressing their discontent with the Assad regime, with messages such as “Enough with Assad”.
Russia, a long-standing supporter of Assad throughout the civil war, has maintained minimal military involvement in Syria since the recent rebel offensive commenced. Despite Russia's historical backing of Assad, the rebel advances seem to have resonated positively with Syrians abroad, leading to public displays of support and celebration.
In Istanbul, Turkey, another group of Syrians expressed their joy at the rebels' progress against the Assad regime. Videos captured scenes of people singing and dancing in a square in the city’s Bashakshehir neighborhood, with one individual proudly waving a “Free Syria” flag. Turkey, currently home to approximately 3.2 million Syrian refugees, has been a crucial host country for those fleeing the conflict in Syria.
