Three people have been admitted to hospital in London with rare monkeypox virus, health officials have confirmed. The virus is rare in the UK but can be caught by those travelling to west and central Africa.
Two of those infected with the virus, live together and have been admitted to the infectious disease unit at St Mary's Hospital, in London. It is not thought that they are connected to the other UK patient who caught the virus earlier this month.
The other patient is thought to have caught monkeypox during a trip to Nigeria. The patient is being treated at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, also in London. While cases are rare, one person was found to have been infected with monkeypox in Liverpool last year.
