A month after his latest concussion, Sydney defender Tom McCartin will make his AFL return against Geelong.
But Patrick Dangerfield won't be back from his hamstring injury after he wasn't named in Geelong's team, while the Cats have lost Ollie Henry (hamstring).
McCartin was concussed in round eight in a high bump by GWS forward Callum Brown, which landed the Giant a three-match ban.
The key defender, 24, also missed nine games last season because of concussion.
He has been named at full-back for Sunday's clash at the SCG, while the Cats regain Mark Blicavs and Jhye Clark from suspension.
Essendon have named Kyle Langford and Todd Goldstein to face Carlton.
Langford has overcome a hip issue that forced him from the field against Gold Coast, while Goldstein (ankle) was managed for last week's loss.
Mason Redman (hamstring) is out, but Dylan Shiel, Will Setterfield and Archie Roberts are all in the mix for Sunday.
"Providing those things play out as we expect them to (at training), we should be pretty straightforward in terms of availability," coach Brad Scott said.
"A little bit more difficult in terms of the way we line up."
Carlton have lost Orazio Fantasia to an AC joint injury while ruckman Marc Pittonet (finger) wasn't named.
But twins Ben and Harry McKay have both been named as they prepare to face off for the first time at AFL level.
Western Bulldogs midfielder Tom Liberatore will return from concussion against Brisbane on Friday night.
The Bulldogs have recalled Buku Khamis, with Sam Darcy (suspension) and James Harmes (hamstring) sidelined.
Brisbane regain Brandon Starcevich from injury and Eric Hipwood from suspension.
As expected, GWS pair Callan Ward and Callum Brown return from illness and suspension respectively.
They replace Stephen Coniglio (knee) and Harry Perryman (hamstring) against an unchanged Hawthorn team in Launceston on Saturday.
St Kilda have named Max King (jarred knee) to take on twin brother Ben's Gold Coast at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night.
"We're really optimistic (with King). We expect him to train and train fully, so if he gets through pain-free he'll play," coach Ross Lyon said.
But there was no room for Brad Crouch, listed as an emergency for an unchanged team.
The Suns were unchanged.
North Melbourne welcome back co-captain Jy Simpkin from a lingering quad injury against West Coast.
