Here's what you need to know this morning:
SES called to assist with flash flooding
There was flash flooding in parts of Sydney overnight.
A car was caught in flood waters in South Windsor in the north west and trees came down down in Lindfield in the north.
Some roads including Oxford Falls Road and the Wakehurst Parkway remain closed due to flooding.
The State Emergency Services (SES) worked through the night to remove trees from the roads.
Drivers are being urged to exercise caution and allow extra travel time.
Evacuation centres open
Evacuation centres have been set up for parts of northern NSW due to flooding fears as heavy rainfall continues.
Last night the SES issued evacuation orders for parts of Lismore and Kyogle, with locals told to be out of their homes by 10pm on Monday.
This morning, people in Billinudgel have been told to evacuate from low lying areas.
And in Mullumbimby, residents have been told to leave low lying areas by 7am.
The SES has advised evacuation centres have been set up at Southern Cross University on Military Road at Lismore, the Kyogle Memorial Hall, 58 Dalley St Mullumbimby and the Ocean Shores Country Club.
The SES' Scott McLennan says it's a rapidly moving situation but residents are complying with requests to leave.
"They are tired, they are exhausted , but they have been heeding our warnings. They have been listening to us and they have been preparing for yet more rain to fall. They've been listening to us and they've been taking very proactive and resilient measures," Mr McLennan said.
CCTV images released over stabbing
Detectives have asked for help identifying a group of men who could assist their investigations into a stabbing at Darling Harbour.
About 1.30am on Monday, police were called to move on a large crowd from outside a cafe which had reached capacity.
As police were moving the crowd on, a brawl erupted between a group of men inside the cafe.
A 21-year-old man was stabbed and taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
A man, 20, was handcuffed at the scene and taken to the police station before being released.
As part of their investigations, police have released images of six men who could help with inquiries.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Meteorologists warn up to 300mm of rain
Intense rainfalls and thunderstorms could cause life-threatening flash flooding today across northern NSW, weather forecasters have predicted.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) issued a report at 5am this morning, warning in some local areas a mix of thunderstorms and intense rainfall could cause six hourly rainfall totals to reach in excess of 200m in six hours, and up to 300mm.
And damaging wind gusts peaking at 90km/h were also predicted across coastal areas this morning.
In particular, heavy rainfall is expected today at Lismore, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Tenterfield and Dorrigo.
Rainfall reported from about 11pm on Monday until Tuesday, 4.50am:
- Murwillumbah 147mm
- Tumblegum 134mm
- Mullumbimby 129mm
- Alstonville 124mm
- Burringbar 149mm
Dam set to spill
The Warragamba dam in Sydney's west is expected to start spilling this morning as rain continues to fall on the city.
While the state's Northern Rivers and Mid-North Coast face more extreme weather and potential major flooding, Sydney is predicted to miss the worst of the conditions.
The SES and BOM said there could be minor flooding on the Hawkesbury and Nepean rivers.
NSW SES acting commissioner Daniel Austin said people should prepare in advance to respond to what could be a dynamic situation.
Isolated heavy showers could hit the city today.
The Star inquiry continues
The inquiry into The Star's suitability to hold a casino licence continues today in Sydney.
The investigation will examine The Star's maintenance and administration of systems to counter money laundering and infiltration by organised crime.
Star Entertainment Group's managing director and CEO, Matt Bekier, resigned yesterday over issues raised at the inquiry.
Chairman John O'Neill said Mr Bekier told the board he was resigning because he was "accountable for the effectiveness and adequacy of the company's processes, policies, people and culture".
