Dashcam Footage Shows Sydney Harbour Bridge Crash Allegedly Caused By Driver In Stolen Car

Police have alleged a driver involved in the multi-car crash on the Sydney Harbour Bridge on Monday morning stole the vehicle that flipped and burst into flames.

NSW Police confirmed three vehicles were involved in the incident at about 7:10am. One car was flipped in the crash and caught on fire.

Dashcam footage of the incident later released on Monday afternoon has allegedly shown a driver of a Toyota Kluger speeding and weaving through traffic before it collided head-on with another vehicle.

NSW Police superintendent Rohan Cramsie said the driver of the Toyota Kluger was under police guard while an investigation was underway.

“Whilst our investigations are still very early in the piece, they do lead us to believe at this point in time that the Kluger may have been stolen from the vicinity of Sussex and Goulburn Street, Sydney, this morning, just before the collision,” he said.

“It does appear to us as though the driver of the Kluger, the owner of the Kluger was changing his tyre. We will allege at this stage that he was approached by the male who had a conversation with him about his car.

“There was a short scuffle which ensued and then the male who was asking about the Kluger got into the Kluger and drove it away and then headed towards the Harbour Bridge.”

The driver, a man believed to be in his 30s, was treated for a suspected head injury at the scene before he was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious condition.
