Sydney FC sign 'livewire' Farrow after Vine departure

Sydney FC have begun to fill the void left by Matildas star Cortnee Vine, luring Perth Glory striker Millie Farrow to the east coast on a one-year deal.

Monday's announcement comes days after Vine left Sydney to take up a contract in the US with National Women's Soccer League club North Carolina Courage.

Englishwoman Farrow, who played one season with North Carolina, joins the reigning premiers after netting seven goals and four assists across 22 matches with Perth Glory.

Her trophy-laden career began with English giants Chelsea, where she was a part of the squad that claimed the FA Women's Super League and Women's FA Cup double in 2015.

The 28-year-old went on to play for Crystal Palace, Reading, Bristol City and the Courage before heading to Australia.

"Sydney FC are the benchmark each season and it's an honour to be joining Australia's most successful club," Farrow said.

"I'm excited to play with the championship winners and determined to help this club defend its title and reach an eighth consecutive grand final.

"I hope I can score the goals to help them extend their incredible record."

Farrow's maiden season in the A-League Women ended in frustration after the Glory slumped to finish 10th overall following a torrid 12-match winless run.

Meanwhile, the Sky Blues went on to win a league-record fifth championship after falling short of a premiership this season.

Sydney coach Ante Juric, who recently re-signed on a two-year deal, is confident Farrow can become the next star of the league with the club.

"Millie is a livewire forward who has all the attributes to score a lot of goals for Sydney FC," he said.

"She is a winner. I'm looking forward to seeing her imprint herself on to the league in a big way."
