Switch Island closed and two women taken to hospital after crash

Two women were injured following a crash on Switch Island.

Police received a report of a two vehicle crash at around 11.05am on Switch Island today.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said two women "were injured and an ambulance was called" following the incident.

North West Ambulance Service confirmed a number of people were taken to hospital, however the extent of their injuries is unclear.

Traffic management Inrix said Dunnings Bridge Road northbound was blocked for a number of hours due to a crash at Broom's Cross Road and the M57 at Switch Island

There was also congestion to The Netherton pub on Church Road and the incident was affecting traffic heading in the direction of Maghull.

Photos taken by eyewitnesses show two cars with damage to the front on the vehicles and debris can also be seen on the floor following the crash.

Around four police cars were pictured attending the incident as they closed the road to other drivers.

One driver said on social media the traffic was "horrendous" following the crash.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We had a report of a two vehicle RTC at 11.05am at Switch Island and two women were injured and ambulance was called."

The road has since reopened and traffic has returned to normal.
