According to the NY Post, the blast was so strong that some victims’ bodies were burned beyond recognition. Videos from the club showed waitresses walking through crowds with flaming champagne bottles held high, almost touching the ceiling. This party trick turned deadly around 1:30 in the morning local time.
The fire caused what experts call a “flashover,” which means everything that could burn in the room caught fire at the same time. Panicked people rushed toward the bar’s only staircase to escape.

Authorities warned that identifying victims will take time because many bodies were so badly burned that they need to use DNA and dental records.
