Swiss legend cites national team blunder by omitting former Rangers star

Swiss legend Kubilay Turkyilmaz reckons they have blundered by not taking former Rangers striker Cedric Itten to the Euros.

The Swiss face the Hungarians today in Scotland's group and will want to get off to a good start before they face the Scots in Cologne.

But Turkyilmaz - who was Switzerland's all-time record goalscorer with 34 goals in 64 appearances - can't believe they didn't include former Ibrox flop Itten in their squad, after he helped Young Boys to the Swiss title this season.

He said: "I was very surprised we left Cedric Itten at home. He's had another good season and has scored five goals in 12 international games for Switzerland.

"Who will score the goals for us? That is my worry.

"I can only hope the defenders and midfielders chip in with some goals.

"I think we have no predatory strikers in our team and that is a real problem.

"The Swiss League has too many strikers and that is a problem which has filtered into the national team.

"And I worry that will cost us at the Euros."
