A ‘sweet’ German shepherd with a big heart is still searching for a forever family after a tough year. Kaiser was found as a stray and taken to Manchester Dogs Home almost a year ago, but simply hasn’t found ‘the one’ just yet.
The eight-year-old pooch arrived at the Harpurhey-based kennels in a ‘severely underweight’ state, weighing under 24kg. The average adult male German shepherd typically weighs between 30kg and 40kg.
After plenty of TLC and a number of vet visits, Kaiser soon began to gain weight, looking ‘much better for it’.

Kaiser almost found happiness in 2022 when he was rehomed from the charity, however, he was later returned to rescue, and continues to wait for the perfect home for him.
A spokesperson for Manchester Dogs Home said: “Kaiser arrived into our care almost a year ago. He's been out before, but got returned. He is a sweet dog with a big heart, but does struggle in the kennel environment.
“Kaiser loves to play and spend time with staff in the compound, but can be quite anxious out on walks.”
The lovable shepherd would benefit from a calm, quiet home, ideally with people with who have previous experience of the breed, or other large dogs.
The charity added: “He would suit a family who will take him for easy, leisurely walks and a home where he can relax. No other pets and children must be over 16 years old.
“Kaiser still has some way to go, therefore his new owners must be able to commit to providing Kaiser with the diet he needs.”
