The lead investigator stated that insufficient evidence led to the decision to drop the case, which revolved around an incident at a hotel. While a person was initially suspected of rape and sexual assault, the evidence did not support further proceedings, and the investigation has been terminated.
The suspect was not publicly identified by prosecutors, but numerous Swedish media outlets pointed to Real Madrid striker Mbappé, who was in Stockholm during a break from the Spanish league. Mbappé's legal team had previously refuted these reports as false. Following the announcement, neither Mbappé's lawyer nor his representatives have issued any immediate comments.
