Swansea City transfer news as Swans leading race for League One star and club legend spotted chatting with Martin

Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City headlines for Monday, April 17.

Swans 'leading race' for right-back

Swansea City have reportedly emerged as favourites to sign Exeter City star Josh Key this summer.

According to Football Insider, Blackburn Rovers have also shown an interest in the 23-year-old, who's enjoyed an impressive 2022-23 campaign at St James Park, but it's believed the Swans are leading the race for his signature.

A right-back by trade, Key has made 43 appearances in all competitions for the League One outfit, and has notched up three goals and one assist.

He is out of contract in June, but the Devon side are keen on keeping him on board and have already offered a contract extension.

Nevertheless, his future with the Grecians appears highly uncertain, with wing-backs high on the agenda for the Swans this summer.

Manning eyes unbeaten end to the season

Ryan Manning says Swansea City are aiming to build on their newfound momentum and maintain their unbeaten run until the end of the season.

Manning scored the only goal of the game as the Swans saw off Huddersfield Town 1-0 at the Swansea.com Stadium, a result that extend their unbeaten run to five Championship outings.

It also handed the Swans their fourth clean sheet in five games, and Manning believes there is now a really good platform on which to finish the season on a high.

“We had a couple of games – away at Luton was a good performance, Middlesbrough was a good performance – and we felt that there was a change from January and February where we’d struggled quite a lot,” he said.

“So we knew that if we could build on the performances then results would come and then momentum is momentum and on days like this when things are going your way you just seem to keep getting the lucky breaks.

“The fans are getting behind us and there’s a feelgood factor around the place. That’s what happens when you start winning games.

“During the international break, the gaffer spoke to us and said we’ve got to set an objective to go unbeaten until the end of the season.

“We’ve obviously been on a really good run with four wins and a draw so we just need to keep building on it and finish as strongly as we can.”

Bony spotted at Landore

Swansea City legend Wilfried Bony was spotted back in SA1 over the weekend.

The Ivorian, who scored 39 goals in 96 appearances for the Swans over two spells, was seen taking in the latest outing from Swansea City's under-18s, who saw off Sheffield United 3-1 at Landore.

Bony, whose latest move saw him head to Bolivian side Always Ready, could be seen deep in discussion with first team boss Russell Martin, who was also taking in the match.

An image showing the two chatting on the sidelines may well have got a few tongues wagging, but it's more than likely that the 34-year-old was there to see his son Geoff, who started the clash with the Blades.

On the pitch, a second-half brace from Kyrell Wilson and a Iwan Morgan strike proved enough for the young Swans to seal victory.

Wood - We still have plenty to prove

Nathan Wood believes Swansea City still have plenty to prove over the final few weeks of the season.

“I think we’re quite level headed as a group," he said. "We know how to enjoy the wins, but even when we’re going through rough patches I think around the group it’s the same.

“But I can definitely feel the difference on the pitch, especially the way we’re starting games and it can’t harm you when you’re winning games and keeping clean sheets and picking up points.

“Because of where we are in the league, we’re focusing on winning games and picking up results. We feel like we’ve got a lot to prove as individuals and as a team.”

Wilmot aiming for pre-season return

Former Swansea City star Ben Wilmot is hoping to make a return for Stoke City in time for their pre-season schedule after suffer a fracture in his back during the weekend's clash with West Bromwich Albion.

The 23-year-old is currently in hospital in London being assessed after the horror injury, which caused him to be stretchered off, while requiring oxygen.

When asked on his condition, manager Alex Neil said: “I spoke to Ben and he’s seeing a specialist today. He’s currently still in hospital in London and he’ll either be discharged this evening or tomorrow morning. At the moment he’s not going to require any surgery but it’s significant enough that he’ll miss the end of this season.

“He’s in a lot of pain and he’s being treated with pain relief to make sure he’s comfortable. He’ll be disappointed because Ben’s pretty much been an ever present for me this season and missing the remaining games he’ll be disappointed in that fact.

“We’re hoping it’s not going to have any ramifications in terms of his career, which we don’t believe it will do at the moment. We just need to try to get him back fit for pre-season, that’s the focus.

“I think at the moment, from what we’re hearing, pre-season is realistic but I don’t really like putting a timeframe on these types of injuries because although I have had some go to play, it’s in such a delicate part of the body and sometimes it’s hard to predict.

“We’re relatively confident at the moment that Ben will be fit for pre-season.”
