Swansea City transfer news as signing close, exits still needed and duo attracting interest

Swansea City remain eager to offload players before they can bolster their squad.

With almost a month gone since the 2021/22 season ended, the Swans are yet to sell or loan out a player which in turn has ensured they have not made any signings. Several players including Ben Hamer, Yan Dhanda and Korey Smith were released last month, but the owners are desperate to raise funds through sales before sanctioning deals for new recruits.

The lack of generated income has already seen the club miss out on Kal Naismith, as first reported by Vital Swansea, who opted to join Bristol City from Luton Town after the Swans were unable to act quickly. And the same could continue to happen unless the situation changes swiftly.

Joel Piroe remains the man who is most likely to be sold for a significant sum in a move that would trigger a landslide of activity, but until offers are made for the Dutchman, the Swans are reliant on selling some of their fringe men.

It was hoped that Steven Benda could have been sent to Peterborough United on a permanent basis (you can read more on that here), although the Posh are unwilling to meet the asking price of £500,000 at present. Nevertheless, Swansea are still eager to sell the German having already seen Hamer depart.

Arsenal youngster Remy Mitchell is expected to move to south Wales next week and is likely to be the club's first signing of the summer transfer window. He will link-up with Kris O'Leary's Under-23s while the Swans also also confident of adding an additional goalkeeper to their ranks.

Ryan Bennett and Jay Fulton are earning decent sums and would most likely have to take pay cuts to leave Swansea, but both of those players will be allowed to leave if the club receive suitable offers. They will also listen to offers for Liam Walsh who made just 10 appearances for Swansea and Hull City combined last season after being released by Bristol City. Those possible exits could play a significant role in the future of target Joe Allen.

He is expected to start for Wales in their crucial World Cup play-off final clash with Ukraine on Sunday. Rob Page's men then play three further Nations League matches this month having already been beaten 2-1 by Poland in the competition.

Following the conclusion of his country's international schedule, free agent Allen is set to assess his options before deciding where his club future lies. Stoke City recently confirmed they have held talks with the midfielder over the possibility of extending his stay at the bet365 Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Swans have received a number of enquiries about Kyle Joseph, with Portsmouth among the clubs keen on signing the versatile attacker permanently. The same applies to Brandon Cooper who is wanted by several League One clubs on loan.

Rotherham United's Chiedozie Ogbene is admired by Swansea, although, again, they would not be able to afford the Republic of Ireland international at present given that he has just been handed a one-year contract extension by the Millers having helped them gain promotion into the Championship last term.

Central defender Harry Darling is attracting heaps of interest following a fine season with Martin's former club MK Dons. Brighton and Sheffield United are among the clubs understood to be exploring the option of signing the exciting 22-year-old.

Hannes Wolf and Cyrus Christie would both come back to Swansea following successful loan stints with the club in the second half of the 2021/22 campaign. But deals for either player appear unlikely at present, despite the fact Austrian Wolf is willing to take a further cut to re-join the Swans from Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Elsewhere, sources at the club have played down the prospect of a loan swoop for Manchester City's James McAtee who was wanted by Swansea in January.
