Swansea City transfer news as Plymouth Argyle striker on radar and Southampton's reported first choice on new shortlist

These are your Swansea City headlines on Tuesday, May 23.

Swans rival Rovers for striker

The Sun report Swansea and Blackburn Rovers are going head to head for the services of Plymouth Argyle striker Niall Ennis.

Ennis, 24, is out of contract this summer at Home Park, with the club moving up to the Championship next season after winning the League One title under Steven Schumacher.

Swansea's recruitment is currently hindered by the fact there is major uncertainty over head coach Russell Martin's future in SA1, with a move to Southampton looking imminent.

Should Martin make the switch to St Mary's, Schumacher is a name which would likely appear on Swansea's replacement radar.

Ennis scored 12 goals last term and has been offered fresh terms by the Pilgrims, with Rovers and Swansea now monitoring the situation.

Maresca in Blackpool running

Southampton's reported first choice manager Enzo Maresca is in the running for the Blackpool job.

The Daily Mail reported over the weekend that Man City's assistant had been approached over the top job at Saints but had rejected the role in favour of staying with the Premier League champions for another year.

Now bookmakers believe he is on the Seasiders' shortlist, with Neil Critchley also said to be in the running for the role.

Local reports state Critchley is currently the favourite with bookmakers to land the job.

BetVictor have Critchley at 1/4, former Swans attacker Stephen Dobbie at 4/1 and Maresca priced at 6/1.

Nine called up by Wales

Swansea have had nine players called up to Wales' combined senior and under-21s training camp this summer.

The nine Swans called up are Evan Watts, Ben Hughes, Ben Cabango, Ollie Cooper, Joel Cotterill, Cameron Congreve, Liam Cullen, Josh Thomas and Ben Lloyd.

Rob Page's seniors face Euro 2024 qualifiers against Armenia and Turkey in June, while the youngsters will come up against Denmark as they bid to reach their own European finals in 2025.

The senior squad will be named on May 30.

Rodon heading back to Spurs

Joe Rodon is heading back to Tottenham after struggling for minutes during his loan spell with Rennes.

The former Swansea centre-back made a rare start in the French club's 5-0 win over Ajaccio at the weekend. His lack of game-time will be a head-scratcher for Wales boss Rob Page.

It was the 25-year-old's first minutes in Ligue 1 since mid-February and he looked sharp despite his lack of playing time.

"Joe Rodon shows an exemplary mindset, although he does not play," Rennes head coach Bruno Genesio said ahead of the game. "I want to mention it because it is not easy, even less for Joe (due to his lack of minutes)."

Rennes technical director Florian Maurice has confirmed the club won't be extending Rodon's or Spurs team-mate Djed Spence's loan deals. They will now return to managerless Spurs, with Ryan Mason in caretaker charge until a new appointment is made.

Rodon still has two years left to run on his contract in north London and now finds himself in limbo.
