Swansea City transfer news as Man City's stance on James McAtee revealed, Christie leaves Fulham and Wolf gets call

Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City headlines

City yet to make McAtee call

Manchester City have not yet made any decision on James McAtee's future, WalesOnline has been told.

Reports over the weekend had suggested that the newly-crowned Premier League champions were prepared to sanction a possible loan move this summer, citing Swansea City and Huddersfield Town as possible destinations.

However, sources in the north-west have claimed that Man City have not yet decided on the youngster's fate for next season, with the player expected to feature as part of the club's pre-season plans as planned. Indeed, it's understood a call on what happens next is unlikely to be made until towards the end of the summer.

McAtee has been on the radar of the Swans for some time, and was heavily tipped for a potential loan move to south Wales back in January. Queens Park Rangers were also very keen, but a move never materialised.

The 19-year-old went on to sign a new contract shortly after the January window closed, in a deal that will keep him at the Etihad until 2026. Nicknamed the 'Salford Silva', it's clear that he's very highly rated by those at Man City, although it seems unlikely that he'll see too many first-team minutes next term.

City have previously been keen to keep the forward at the club to allow Pep Guardiola to keep a closer eye on his progress, but a loan spell next term hasn't been categorically ruled out. Should McAtee become available, it's understood Swansea would likely be among a clutch of clubs interested in taking him on, and might well be well placed to get a deal over the line.

Indeed, there's previously been a suggestion that there is something of a mutual respect between the two clubs, with Swansea's style of football potentially rendering them an attractive option to Man City and others.

Martin ready to hit the ground running

Russell Martin says his Swansea City players face an intense pre-season schedule over the coming weeks as he bids to bring his squad up to speed ahead of the new campaign.

The Swans boss would clearly love to bring a few new faces on board before the curtain is raised on a new campaign, but knows he will also have to bring out the best in his current crop too if he is to build on what was a reasonably promising opening season.

“Pre-season is pretty much planned and we are excited," he said. "The fixtures are being finalised. We are looking forward to working with the group and having time to implement things.

“We want to set out how we are going to work as a group, and what we want to stand for and be known for.

“We want to condition the players to play our way from day one, rather than building the plane in flight like we had to last season.

“We will have six weeks of really hard, intense work. Hopefully it will be enjoyable, and we can show people the journey from day one. The players know they need to come back ready. It’s important they switch off and do what they want for a week or two, but you have to condition yourself to be ready for pre-season to hit the ground running.

“The guys are really diligent and hard-working, and I am sure we will see the benefit of that.”

Christie's Fulham departure confirmed

Cyrus Christie has officially left Fulham.

The full-back's departure has been confirmed as part of the Cottagers' latest retained list, and comes as little surprise to many. That said, his hugely successful loan spell has potentially seen his stock rise, and it seems likely that he will find himself in demand this summer.

Swansea City are clearly keen on keeping him in south Wales, but there doesn't appear to be anything imminent in terms of a breakthrough, despite the player himself seemingly being open to a stay.

Nottingham Forest is another name to have been mentioned, although one suspects much will depend on whether Steve Cooper's men seal a place in the Premier League in the play-off final at the end of the month.

Confirming Christie's departure, Fulham said in a statement: "We would like to thank all the players leaving us for their contributions to Fulham over the years, and wish them the very best of luck in the next steps of their careers.

"Cyrus Christie joined on deadline day in January 2018, and went on the help the Club win two Play-Off Finals, coming off the bench in our Wembley victories over Aston Villa and Brentford, respectively.

"Christie played 68 times for Fulham in total, with his one league goal a very memorable one when he lashed home a fine strike in the derby victory over Queens Park Rangers in June 2020.

"Off the pitch, Cyrus was a regular at Foundation events, and always proactive in finding ways to give back to the community."

Former Swan Alfie Mawson has also been released.

Wolf gets Austria call

Hannes Wolf has been called up for Ralf Rangnick's first Austria squad.

The winger is yet to win a cap for his country, but has been rewarded for a fine spell on loan with Swansea City during the second half of last season by winning a place in the latest 25-man squad.

Austria face a trip to Croatia in the Nations League, before hosting fellow League A rivals Denmark and France. They then end the summer by taking on the Danes again in Copenhagen.
