Swansea City transfer news as club to miss out on Fulham star and bookies make Russell Martin shock Cardiff City contender

Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City news for Tuesday, May 16.

Swans to miss out on Bryan

Joe Bryan is set to complete a return to Bristol City on a free transfer this summer.

Swansea City, and rivals Cardiff City, were understood to be admirers of the left-back, whose contract at Fulham is set to run out this summer, but he has chosen a return to Severnside.

Bryan spent last season on loan at French side OGC Nice, but made just 10 appearances for the club. However, his signature still managed to generate a fair amount of interest from the Championship.

As well as the two Welsh sides, Blackburn Rovers, Stoke City and Millwall were believed to be monitoring the 29-year-old, but it's the Robins who have now won the race for his signature.

It represents a homecoming for the defender, who left Ashton Gate in the summer of 2018 for west London after making 230 first-team appearances.

Martin in shock Cardiff link

Russell Martin's name has been thrown into the mix by the bookies as a potential successor to Sabri Lamouchi at Cardiff City.

At the time of writing, the current Swans boss is priced at 10/1 with SkyBet, putting him as joint second favourite behind early frontrunner Nathan Jones, who's currently 4/5 on.

Neil Warnock and Kevin Phillips are the others currently priced at 10/1.

Swans insiders have already dismissed the links and there's no evidence to suggest a move to the capital is a realistic proposition at this stage.

Even so, there is still some uncertainty hanging over Martin's future in SA1. The 37-year-old has a year remaining on his current deal at the club, and has already been linked with a number of jobs, with Leicester City becoming the latest name mentioned.

Martin is set to sit down with new chairman Andy Coleman this week to discuss the best way forward.

Young duo sign new deals

Swansea City under-21s duo Kai Ludvigsen and Jack Stafford have signed contract extensions with the club.

Centre-half Ludvigsen was set to become a free agent this summer, but has put pen to paper on a fresh deal that will keep him at the club for another year.

Commenting on the 19-year-old's latest contract, under-21s coach Anthony Wright said: "We're really pleased with Kai. The way he's applied himself over the last three or four months, on and off the field, is great.

"His performances have been to a high level, so he's earnt the right to get himself a new contract. And again, it's what we want to see, players rightfully extending their stay here to develop and push on."

Fellow defender Stafford, meanwhile, has signed a deal that will keep him at the club through to the end of the current calendar year.

"Jack has had a tough year with injury, so I'm delighted he's been given the chance to extend his stay here, and the opportunity of playing regular football next season," Wright continued.
