These are your Swansea City headlines on Sunday, August 28.
Swans keen on Bayern Munich teen
Reports in Germany state Swansea are among a host of teams tracking Bayern Munich youngster Gabriel Vidović.
The German giants are looking to send the teenage attacker out on loan for the season. He was due to be left out of the Bayern squad over the weekend with a decision said to be imminent over this short-term future.
Gladbach, Hertha, Nürnberg, Swansea and Vitesse are interested, according to Kicker. But separate reports from the country state Bayern want to send him on loan domestically, which would rule Swansea out entirely.
Hertha sporting director Fredi Bobic has seemingly ruled himself out of the race, though. "He's a great boy, absolutely a great boy. But I don't think he'll serve with us," he said.
Swans to miss out on international
Free agent Massimo Luongo is closing in on a move to Reading, according to the Daily Mail.
Swansea were among a number of clubs tracking the Australia international, who has been without an employer since he left Sheffield Wednesday at the end of last season.
Middlesbrough and Huddersfield Town were also in the hunt, but the midfielder appears destined for Berkshire.
The Royals are currently top of the Championship after a stellar start to the season.
Meanwhile, the Sun report Stoke City are keen on a loan move for Newcastle United's Federico Fernandez, formerly of this parish.
The 33-year-old is believed to be available, but his £60,000-a-week wages could be an issue for the Potters, who are seeking to clarify how much they would have to cover.
Allen - we let ourselves down
Swans midfielder Joe Allen says they let themselves down at certain points during the defeat to Middlesbrough.
The hosts went into a 2-0 lead, giving Swansea too much to do to get back into the tie, despite an improved second-half showing which saw Joel Piroe register a consolation goal from the penalty spot.
Allen says they need more belief in their own capabilities, especially when up against the cosh.
“It's frustrating, it's just in certain moments we let ourselves down and sometimes our reaction to it is a little bit flat,” said the Wales international.
“We need to keep the belief in games that we can get back into it. The goal knocked our confidence and then conceding the second goal made it that much harder.
“Fair play, into the second half we put the pressure on and got one back, and at that point I think we were all quite confident that we could go on and get that second goal.
“We just needed that one opportunity and unfortunately it didn't quite happen.”
Whittaker improving
Morgan Whittaker appears to be settling in well with loan club Plymouth Argyle.
The striker came off the bench in the win over Bolton to provide an assist for Ryan Hardie, with our colleagues at PlymouthLive reporting Whittaker is quickly getting up to speed after a pedestrian start to life in Devon.
"Getting better all the time after a slow start to his season-long loan from Swansea City," they wrote, handing him a 7/10 rating. "Came up with an excellent assist when Ryan Hardie grabbed Argyle's second goal late on after a strong run and good pass."
Christie makes Hull debut
Former Swans man Cyrus Christie made his debut for Hull City on Saturday.
The full-back came on as a late substitute as the Tigers saw out their win over Coventry City.
Swansea are in need of a full-back themselves and at one stage at the start of the summer it looked like Christie would be returning to south Wales after such a fruitful last six months of the campaign.
But a deal could not be struck and he has now pitched up at the KCOM Stadium. He wrote on social media: "Back to Business. Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome. Appreciate all your good wishes and look forward to what this season holds for this club @hullcity."
